Our batch at Waitete Bay on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand, looks out over some lovely green hills towards a distant range of higher hills. Early one morning as I looked out over the back fence, I saw mist rising off those distant hills, and being under-lit by the rising sun. It almost looked as if the sky was on fire.
Many people who look at this trio of paintings, think they are about fire, but no – they are about light shining through the mist. I love the way the dark pine trees catch the orange morning light in their branches, outlining and highlighting their lovely shapes.
